Mary Kennedy

Mary lives in north Cumbria, just north of Hadrian's Wall, between the Pennines and the Solway. For over 25 years she has decorated wooden trays and boxes made by her partner Richard, and also the model houses ('Houseboxes') they make together: replicas of people's own houses, with doors, windows, tiles, stonework etc all painted in great detail, not to mention climbing plants and family pets if required!

She loves painting on wood and her easel paintings are usually on boards - plywood or hardboard rather than canvas. Her favourite subject matter is landscape and the effect of light, the way it can turn a solid mountain into a distant ghostly shimmer on the horizon, or plunge a whole valley into shadow, or make brilliant stripes across a carpet as it shines through a window.
